Phones To Consider When You Are Super Rich
Posted by Lester Madden under General, Smartphones, Symbian
I visited Motorola in Turin not so long ago. In their reception area they had a cabinet displaying some of their high range devices. One of them was solid gold Razor, the ultimate bling. As this weekend’s Euro Millions Lottery is a massive £120 million roll over jackpot, it got me thinking about what I would do with the money should I be fortunate enough to have the winning ticket on Saturday morning.

Watch Phone For Budding Secret Agents
Posted by Lester Madden under Gadgets, Smartphones
Ever fancied yourself as a secret agent? Of course you have, but to be the next James Bond you need to have the latest gadgets. I’ve said a few times that this year we are going to see a plethora of watch phones come to the market. At MWC and CTIA there were a number of the mobile heavy weights showing off their latest integrated watch/cell designs.

LG Xenon And General Catch-up

No blog for a few days. I setup a new blog dedicated to augmented reality and have been working on getting that ready. I installed a really complicated WordPress theme for the new site that looked great, but I spent ages trying to get it to work. I’ve given up on that theme now and going to go for something a little easier to work with. Hopefully the newsite should be ready over the weekend.

Augmented Reality Clothing And Face Recognition
Posted by Lester Madden under Augmented Reality, Smartphones
What do your clothes say about you? Well take a tee-shirt, twitter and create an augmented reality mashup they can apparently say quiet a lot. Imaging sitting on a train and anyone being able to see your tweets just by pointing their smartphone at you?

Augmented Reality And Smartphone Show 2009
Posted by Lester Madden under Augmented Reality, General, Smartphones, Symbian
Smartphone Show 2009 planning has started, finally. We are a little late this year what with the Symbian -> Nokia -> Symbian Foundation move, but things are starting to move. As I’m sure I said before I am responsible for the DevFest which is all things developer at the show and you probably guessed that I am keen to have an augmented reality for smartphones focus at the show this year to generate some excitement/awareness of this super cool technology.

Furture Phones
Posted by Lester Madden under Smartphones
That state of the art smartphone you have sitting on your desk that you’re so proud of, give it a year and it will become a worthless piece of junk that you couldn’t give to a 12 year old. So have you wondered what you’ll be carrying around in a few years?

3D Photo Browser For The Nokia 5800
Posted by Lester Madden under Smartphones, Software, Symbian
Do you ever get one of those days were you want to scream and kick your PC to pieces? Yesterday my laptop was doing the strangest things. When I tried to send an email I could type anywhere except inside the message area. I could write in the subject field, the email address field or any other application, but when I clicked into the message area text refused to be accepted.

It’s not often I get excited about browser plug-ins (or an iPhone app) but Cooliris rocks.
Cooliris provides a lightning fast cinematic way to view images and video and more.

Commercializing Augmented Reality
Posted by Lester Madden under Augmented Reality, Smartphones
After yesterdays post about how cool augmented reality is, I spent the morning and most of the afternoon doing demos to people around the office. The guys here were coming up possible uses from everything from tee-shirts to games. I see AR as a technology that is just waiting to become the next big thing, it just needs a killer app to propel it into the public eye before it becomes part of our everyday lives and something we take for granted. Normally that’s waiting for the porn or advertising industries to become adopters.

Augumented Reality Demo For Nokia Devices
Posted by Lester Madden under Augmented Reality, Smartphones, Software, Symbian
When I left school I wanted to write computer games. The problem was couldn’t draw so my skills in the computer gaming world were somewhat limited. So I ended up doing systems programming which didn’t require any game development skills, just good old ODBC to suck data out a database somewhere and display it in a form. I still shed the odd tear at what could have been but I am content with playing games and keeping up to date with future gaming technology.
