A couple of weeks back I invited people to submit their applications for the chance to present them on the Symbian Foundation stand at Mobile World Congress. I’ll admit that I was a bit nervous about the idea, not because I doubt anyone’s ability to build great stuff, but because the device was so new (it only shipped in the UK a few weeks ago) I had no idea how many responses I’d get back.
I’ve run a lot of early adopter programs it the past, working with 3rd party software providers to produce commercial software in time for the launch of a device or product but I’ve always had some level of control rather than a blind call for papers approach. But I should have known not to worry, we had about 40 replies from interested parties eager to present their solutions. Where they didn’t have a solution for the 5800 , no worries, they invested time in porting their application.
I’ve spent few days working with the developers and can publish the agenda for the speakers. If you are at MWC please be sure to drop by and see some of the latest applications for S60 5th Edition, many of which you wont have seen before. We’re located at stand 8A77 in Hall 8, opposite Texas Instruments.
You’ll find the agenda for the talks here. http://developer.symbian.com/wiki/display/pub/Application+Spotlight
FlyScreen one of our presenters has blogged about their spot here.
Talking of demos, the guy who sits next to me is responsible for the Symbian Academy program, so he gets to work with some of the great applications that are written by students. He’s busy getting a few other demos ready for the show including, ShakerRacer (control a radio controlled car with a mobile phone). WiiRemote, uses a Wii remote control to play a game on a 5800, and an alcohol sensor application that tells you how much you have had to drink. He’s busy sitting in a room praying to the demo Gods. Ah I miss those days
